Judicial Watch/Zogby Poll: Likely Voters Want To Rid Illegals Of The US
Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, today released the results of a nationwide poll conducted in partnership with Zogby International concerning the American people’s attitudes towards illegal immigration. Among the poll’s highlights of 1,211 likely voters, conducted October 16-19, 2008 (margin of error is +/- 2.9%): * 71.5% said they agree local law enforcement officers should enforce federal immigration laws, including 51.5% of Hispanics and 56.2% of self-described “liberals.” * 71.5% said they disagree public officials should use taxpayer funds to operate day laborer sites that help illegal immigrants, including 56.2% of Hispanics and 53.2% of self described “liberals.” * 57.1% said more law enforcement is needed to address the issue of illegal immigration while only 7.1% said they believe less law enforcement should be used. 34.7% of Hispanics support more law enforcement while 15.5% said less. Of self-described “liberals,” 39% said they support more law enforcement, while 13.2 percent said less.
The funny thing about this is that this finding is both remarkably consistent over time and as an extra added bonus all but ignored by our “Three Monkey Media.”
The first and most important comment that needs to be made every time we talk about this is how often ‘immigration’ polls only offer false choices between amnesty and deliciously Jackbooted mass deportations (mental imagery of boxcars and ovens earn you extra points!)
Of course the inestimable CIS trounced this tripe noting that the inclusion of the idea “enforcement through attrition” was an instant smash hit, and of course a scant 69% of voters would prefer to see us gain control of our borders while an overwhelming majority, ahem, 21% this amnesty is more important.
As Instapundit said: And isn’t it funny that 69% of Americans don’t have a Presidential candidate who agrees with them on this issue?
And as I wrote…”You can learn a lot about what the elites really think simply by paying attention to how poll questions are phrased and in some cases, even more importantly, by what they don’t ask. This poll tells me that they have incredibly soft internal numbers for their amnesty dance and they are trying desperately to spin things to make it seem as though all the cool kids support amnesty.”
To flesh that idea out a bit further I think it’s helpful to just assume that any poll, on any subject you come across in the “Three Monkey Media” is no more and no less than an attempt to convince you that other people agree with the elites on most issues, which is almost painfully, patently false.
In other words it is a type of Psy-ops, as we see every election cycle when (D)’s lead by a 1000% up to the election and then magically lose or win by 2%. Hmmm, how good were those polls again?
I’ll say it again, whenever you come across any poll that is mediated by “professionals” you would do well to assume the opposite of whatever BS it is they are trying desperately to shovel into your head.
