Grant Park Tonight! Fly Your Freak Flag High!
Posted by Jake in Uncategorized |We just got back from the Grant Park Obamapalooza. Here are some quick impressions and then some photos.
Obviously there was no violence at the event that we are aware of anyway. The crowd was massive, truly, stunningly massive. So massive it made it difficult to take pictures, videos or even move about freely.
For most of the black folks there tonight clearly Obama’s win was a religious event. The level of intensity was unnerving to say the least and it was more like the post game revelry of a sporting event rather than an election.
The crowd was largely under twenty five and had no problems, as the headline states ‘letting their freak flag fly.’ Our impression, from conversations overheard standing in various lines, was that these folks see this as the first step to a fundamental remaking of America.
It is difficult to overstate the giddiness of the crowd tonight, we saw tears, incoherent screaming, chanting, and shared knowing smiles on the bus ride home.

This fine young gentleman leapt upon the top of the porta-potties in celebration of the Obama victory scaring the…well, you know out of the people who’d been availing themselves of the facilities. He was also wearing a Mexico ball cap and waving an American flag.
We saw the “Hopey-Change Rickshaw” on our way in…
