Sunday Thoughts: The Other War?

Posted by Jake in Uncategorized |

Fausta’s blog has a good run down of the current state of affairs of Mexico’s drug cartel wars here. In specific it details how last week the Mexican government caught a major cartel fish and a stunning weapons cache…

The day before Gonzalez Duran’s arrest, Mexican officials searching for him raided a safe house, where they discovered an arms cache that would turn out to be the largest weapons seizure in Mexican history. This is no small feat, as there have been several large hauls of weapons seized from the Zetas and other Mexican cartel groups in recent years.

The weapons seized at the Gonzalez Duran safe house included more than 500 firearms, a half-million rounds of ammunition and 150 grenades. The cache also included a LAW rocket, two grenade launchers and a small amount of explosives. Along with the scores of assorted assault rifles, grenades and a handful of gaudy gold-plated pistols were some weapons that require a bit more examination: namely, the 14 Fabrique Nationale (FN) P90 personal defense weapons and the seven Barrett .50-caliber sniper rifles contained in the seizure.

It goes on to talk about how this violence is spreading across our border and how American law enforcement officers need to pay close attention to this phenomenon. It ends with this chilling assessment from Glenn Reynolds

I hope that those troops we’ll soon be able to bring back from Iraq won’t have to put their counterinsurgency and urban-warfare skills to work closer to home . . .

Those quoted bits are all from the Stratfor blog, here is what Fausta is hearing from friends in Mexico…

I have discussed this Mexican drug wars problem with several people who live in Mexico, and they expect it to escalate such proportions that they don’t rule out the need for an invasion from the US military within the next five to ten years.

Let me ask a silly question: and why would we do that exactly? Why would we put American lives at risk for a country that hates us? Mexico loathes America, why in God’s name would we go to bat for a country that is at best an enemy, at best, and at worst a parasitical life form draining the life out of us?

Bottom line? Seal the border and let Mexicans do whatever it is they wish to do. I respect them enough to treat them like a grown ass country, not like little children who can’t be expected to know better.

I don’t recall Italy invading the United States when we were dealing with our (wholly imported) problems with various Mafia’s over the years. This is an internal criminal matter, and if Mexico wants to be treated like an actual nation they will need to find the national will to deal with it, or not, either way this is not our problem.

Here’s a thought, let’s seal the border and throw all these “hard working immigrants” back over it with an M-16, let them figure it out.

hello i have been reading your blogs and i´d like to tell you that i find them very offensive, I live in Mexico and I dont believe that our government has ever asked for yours to intervene, The u.s. likes to butt into other people´s business, that´s what America does and that is what it is doing in Irak, Afghanistan, and every other country that has enough oil, so please get your facts straight, Mexico wouldn´t send so many drugs into your country if Americans didn´t consume so much, dont you think? I am telling you this in a civilized manner, I live right accross the border where they arrested that gonzalez duran, and its not as bad as the american media makes it out to be…one more thing tell all the businesses in the riogrande valley (that´s in south texas) about sealing the borders, see what they answer!
