    I’m reading a very compelling book right now, called “Shock Doctrine” by Naomi Klein. Klein is a leftist from Canada, but she makes some excellent points - one of which is how the US economic system is not compatible with something that has been done all over Latin America for centuries. The “shock” here is when the Milton Friedman University of Chicago economic theories were applied (and viociously) to Chile, Uruguay, and Argentina. They obviously failed because people there were used to their wage and price controls and government handouts of land, welfare, and schooling. Here, we are being indoctrinated in more socialism, but tempered with the same kind of ultra-capitalist free unfettered trade and labor doctrines that created the problems in parts of S. America that you are now seeing here. We can’t have it both ways, but we certainly can achieve balance. One just hopes that it’s not the same kind of “balance” that you see in Klein’s example or in Mainland China.
