Benefits of Joining a Construction Company or Association of Custom Home Builders
The Custom Home Builders Committee represent builders who excel in the development and management of custom homes. The committee develops strategic alliances with associations representing builders, instructing them on areas pertinent to custom home construction and reviewing proposed NAHB resolutions as they pertain to custom home building. The members of the committee are also involved in monitoring, regulating and preserving standards and codes related to custom home construction. This group assists the Builders Association in its mission to “promote excellence in house building.”
The Builders Association and the National Association of Manufacturers of Custom Home Builders are currently seeking new members. In order to join either organization, the applicant must have a verified interest in the construction industry as a member of one or both organizations. To achieve acceptance into either organization, the applicant must meet the general building phases required for building a custom home. This generally requires a letter of interest and a completed Building Surveyor’s Statement.
Most custom home builders begin their construction work by meeting with the General Contractors and providing them with a site plan for the house they envision. They also discuss financing arrangements and discuss which items will require a loan from the association. The General Contractors then review the plans and provide written approvals. The Builders Association handles the negotiations for the General Contractors and the NAHB does the review of the proposed loans.
The Builders Association and the National Association of Manufacturers of Custom Home Builders are currently seeking new members. In order to become a member of either organization, the applicant must have a verified interest in house building as a member of one or both organizations. To accomplish this, the applicant must have a completed Building Surveyor’s Statement and/or a letter of interest from one or more manufacturers of custom home builders. These companies may participate in joint venture agreements with these associations. It is also possible for individual members to get involved in these joint ventures.
The primary advantage of becoming a member of either organization is the ability to network with other custom home builders. Members of these organizations can provide each other with valuable information. This includes their latest projects they have completed in the past. They also can provide each other with valuable referrals and business leads. Networking with other custom home builders can help the new member develop a client list, which in turn will increase the chances of them obtaining a loan from the lending institution.
The ability to be able to network with other custom home builders is the single greatest advantage of becoming a member of either of these organizations. Another advantage of becoming a member of either the Builders Association or the National Association of Manufacturers of Custom Home Builders is the opportunity to attend the annual meetings of these associations. During these meetings, the speakers at the meeting will give special presentations to highlight the benefits of being involved with one of the associations over another. These speaker will give examples of the type of work and projects they have completed, as well as provide information on the types of insurance and bonding they have undergone to ensure the quality of the custom house plans and construction that has been accomplished.
